ENTREPRENEUR OF NOTHING’ PRINCE HARRY TALKS MEGHAN MARKLE DIVORCE RUMORS AT SUMMIT
Are they or aren’t they?
The rumor mill has been swirling that there is trouble in Montecito after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle began separating their previously joint business ventures and making more and more solo appearances – the latest of which saw the royal attend a book summit in New York City without his wife.
When Harry was asked about his marital status, he launched into yet another self-righteous rant about the trials and tribulations of being in the public eye. On Friday’s show, Megyn was joined by The Daily Mail’s Maureen Callahan to discuss Prince Harry’s hypocrisy and whether his marriage survives 2025.
Prince Harry was a guest at The New York Times2024 DealBook Summit in New York City on Wednesday when columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin asked him about all the speculation swirling around him and Markle.
“I Google News-ed you, and there were people fascinated by everything you’re doing, all the time. They’re fascinated by Meghan is in California right now, and you’re here,” Sorkin said. “And there’s articles left and right about, you know, ‘Why are you making, doing independent events? Why aren’t you doing them together?’”
The latter point was likely a reference to the fact that Markle attended the Paley Honors gala in Beverly Hills on the same day her hubby was in the Big Apple. There have also been reports that the pair is going through a “professional separation” and, potentially, a personal one.
“Is that normal for you? The second there’s an article — she’s in California, you’re in New York — they say, ‘Well, what is happening with these two, right?’ Is that a good thing for you, in a way, that there’s so much interest in you,” Sorkin asked.
After joking that Sorkin contributed to the drama by inviting him – and not Markle – to the DealBook Summit, Harry resorted to his normal talking points about his disdain of publicity.
Given how the former royals rely on name recognition and celebrity to fund their lifestyle after leaving the monarchy behind, Callahan took issue with the premise of Harry’s remarks.
“How can one monetize oneself without attention? How does Tyler Perry know where to send his private jet to come get you,” she quipped. I love this Us Weekly conversation at the New York Times DealBook Summit. What is this entrepreneur of nothing, this guy who has never generated $1 for his own benefit or edification know about making deals and making money? He is there because he’s a celebrity.”
Megyn agreed and says Harry’s mere presence at the event illustrates his hypocrisy. “Why is he there other than because he is a super celebrity and Andrew Ross Sorkin wanted to interview him and get pick up for it,” Megyn asked. “And why did Harry show up if he hates attention, he can’t stand it? It’s bad that people are interested in his marriage and in him, but here I am. Look at me.”
When it comes to the divorce rumors, Callahan believes the reports that the duo’s marriage is on the rocks. “We all know the divorce is imminent… Things are not well in Montecito,” she said. “I’ve said it before: There is not a rental car office she won’t walk through to collect a meaningless award to get her photo taken next to her husband, the beta Royal… I’m just calling it now. It’s on my card for 2025.”
